First look at vibe.powerapps.com (even if you’re not in the USA)

With the launch of vibe.powerapps.com last week during Microsoft Ignite, I couldn’t wait to explore the future of app building!! 🥳

This ‘announcement’ rectangle appeared when I went to make.powerapps.com

I clicked this eagerly and selected ‘Try now’! Alas, I was informed that I need a United States-based environment 🥺

That’s not fair!! Why should us Europeans miss out on the shiny new toy 🤨? A clever way around this restriction is to create a new environment (I chose a developer environment) and select the Region as United States.

Once the new USA environment was created, bingo, I was in and raring to get started. I entered a random prompt off the top of my head.

After about 3 minutes, this is the app that got produced! Not bad at all for a simple 2-sentence prompt. The app comes with a list of meals already added and several ‘Add Meal’ buttons so we can begin adding further meals.

When I click ‘Add Meal’ it takes me to an input page where I can fill in details like Meal Name, Category, Food, User etc. It has quite a limited drop down list of Foods, but it’s not bad given the limited information we provided.

In the left hand side there is a chat pane where we can request changes to the app. Let’s try out the below prompt to switch the list of Foods to a list of Carbs.

The Code Agent starts working on my request…….

After 1 minute and 30 seconds it tells me it’s ‘All done!’ I refresh the app and can see that the label has been changed to ‘Carbs’ 👍.

But Rice is the only option available 🤔.

When I click into the ‘Data’ section I can see the original ‘Food Name’ field is sitting on a ‘Food Item’ table. Not sure about this data architecture but to be fair, we didn’t give it much information to go on.

This is just an introduction to getting started with vibe.powerapps.com, I’ll delve deeper into the Power Platform vibing world in future posts.

  1. Briliant article Sean, I thought we’d have to wait till it was available in Europe 🎉
